Matison Johnson
Law Clerk
Mat Johnson was raised in Chugiak, Alaska and graduated from the Anchorage School District. During summers, he worked on farms in Palmer, Alaska. Mat married His wife, Tashah, in 2015.
Mat Graduated with a BA in History from UAA in 2020. He then traveled to Rhode Island for his first year of law school before heading west where he obtained his Juris Doctorate from Willamette University College of Law in 2024. During the summer breaks from law school, Mat clerked for Johnson & Associates. During his final semester of law school, Mat was offered the opportunity to serve as student clerk for an Anchorage Federal District Court judge.
His experience clerking for Johnson & Associates provided Mat with great real-world legal experience. His time with the District Court helped him gain a better understanding of the court system. He brings these skills and more to the table in joining our team.
Growing up in Alaska, Mat spent his time out at the family cabin in the Trapper Creek area. He has hunted everywhere from the North slope to the pan handle. Mat has spotted for deer on Hinchinbrook Island, reeled in halibut outside Resurrection Bay, pulled shrimp pots by hand on a boat out of Whittier, snow machined to find caribou off on the Taylor Highway, and packed moose meat off the Yanurt Trail.
During college Mat worked building custom log cabins both on and off the road system. Mat helped haul logs and other building materials via truck and trailer, helicopter, barge, snowmachine, four-wheeler and snowcat. Whether stacking logs in the foothills of Denali at below zero temperatures, screwing on metal roofing while watching people fish out of the Kenai, or recreating with his jeep or snowmachine, Mat appreciates the both harsh and beautiful state we live and work in.
