National Safer Internet Day

National Safer Internet Day is tomorrow, February 11, 2025. National Safer Internet Day falls on the second Tuesday of February. Fittingly, the day is focused upon all stakeholders coming together to make the internet a safer place. This year’s theme is “Protect Yourself From Online Scams.” While the goal is to make the internet safer for all, the focus will always be the safety of children and the younger generations.
How It Started
In the United States, National Safer Internet Day began in 2013. Currently, this holiday for awareness and progress in celebrated in over 100 countries worldwide. Accordingly, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the European Commission have continue to collaborate for this mission. Safer internet day is run by Insafe, a European network of Safer Internet Centres. This network implements awareness and educational campaigns, run helplines, and work closely with youth to create a better internet.

There are many ways to observe National Safer Internet Day, including the following key steps:
- First, Speak up about cyberbullying.
- Second, Be a part of a campaign in your school, organization, business, or home.
- Third, Contact policymakers and urge them to be a part of the solution.
- Fourth, Join the conversation by using #SaferInternetDay on social media.
Family Programs
The internet opens the world up for our kids… and sometimes that can mean parts of the world we don’t want them to experience. Internet safety requires setting boundaries and expectations for healthy online behaviors within families is important, Having these conversations is not always easy. Kids want to be granted the freedom to navigate their online lives independently and often know more about technology than their parent or caregiver.
